Once upon a time, the old devil always envies ordinary happy people. Therefore, he first sent a little devil trying to spoil a farmer’s living. The devil found that the hard working farmer was very happy even with terribly low income .

In order to discourage the hard working farmer from working, the devil tried to turn the soil harder and harder so that it was difficult for the farmer cultivating crops on the land. However, the farmer was still working hard on his fields without any complaint. The little devil’s attempt failed this time.

The old devil therefore sent another little devil to spoil the farmer again. The second little devil then stole the farmer’s lunch of bread and water. He thought that the farmer would lose his temper as a result of suffering from hunger and thirst. However, the devil ended up with failure again as the farmer thought that the food might be taken away by somebody in urgent need. The second little devil’s attempt failed again.

Then the old devil sent a third little devil to disturb the farmer again. The third little devil has Its own way. How could It do that? The third little devil began to make friendship with the farmer. Having the ability to predict, this little devil told the farmer that it would have drought next year. The farmer then followed the devil’s instruction and made a good harvest ahead of other farmers. The devil also taught the farmer to brew wine from the excess production of grains.

Hence, the farmer became better off as compared with others and was very rich after three years under the guidance of the devil. With the help of the devil, the farmer even grab the political power of ruling others after then. Gradually, this ‘outstanding’ farmer tended to work less and less. He became very lazy and very proud in front of other farmers since he had made a good fortune and possessed utmost power to rule others. The character and integrity of this farmer was totally corrupted under the circumstance. The devil’s evil plan realized successfully this time.

This little devil happily reported to the old devil that the farmer’s character and integrity were totally distorted. The evil goal of the devil has been achieved. The devil was so satisfied to see the integrity of the farmer having been deteriorated day by day. They saw this rich farmer had the best wine to drink and best exquisite meal to eat but showing no mercy to his servants.

The old devil one day asked the little devil;“How can you do that?”The little devil just told him that; “simply let the farmer has more than what he actually needs and tries to make him as greedy as possible. Moreover, let the farmer enjoy high privilege and embrace high authority and thus just let the farmer be corrupted.”

This is the end of the story.

The above story always teaches and reminds us that we should never forget our basic and fundamental goals of living even in the good time when we are rich and in power. Under no circumstance should we be proud and looking down upon others. Always remember that “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.
